The Dawoodi Bohra topi is a distinctive, hand-crocheted white cap featuring intricate gold (kasab) threadwork. It is a cornerstone of the community's traditional attire (Libas al-Anwar), symbolizing purity, piety, and cultural unity.
Men’s topi, a crocheted white cap with a border of golden zari arabesque design, is an essential feature of the attire.
These caps are completely handmade. Artisans use a plastic or aluminum vessel as a frame, working with fine white kite string (cotton or nylon) and metallic gold thread (kasab).
While strictly adhering to white and gold, the patterns range from simple geometric and floral shapes to heavily detailed crowns for festive occasions.
They are snug-fitting caps (like a kufi) made in precise sizes, ranging from 17½ to 24 inches in circumference, and are made for males of all ages, even infants.
